Fun on the farm

What better way to spend Australia Day than up at our country estate, having a genuine Australian BBQ and drinking Mexican beer opened with a bottle opener that plays a Swiss soccer chant.

It was quite hot outside, about 34°C, but remarkably inside the shed it stayed below 25°C.

Home made deskMost of the first part of the weekend was spent building a desk. This was my first serious attempt at woodwork and it went OK. There were numerous old bits of 4×2 lying around the shed, so I cut them into lengths, tidied them up and biscuit joined them together. A quick sand, a few coats of Black Japan, some varnish and then screw the legs on. Voila.
It is custom built to fit into the new apartment and will act as a desk for Sue and I. (Not sure what we will use the dining table for now. Dining perhaps.)
Pepsi and oilI also had to do some work on the mower. Since I had no idea when the previous owner had last serviced it, I did the big service so I could start from scratch. I replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the air filter, changed the fuel filter, oil filter and of course the oil. I had to empty the oil into a container of some sort and the only thing I had was an empty Pepsi bottle. By the time the bottle was full of oil it was very difficult to tell it from a genuine bottle of Pepsi. The two bottles are in the photo. Can you tell which is which?

Unfortunately I can’t do a pepsi taste test. I am sure that a big gulp of that stuff would soon tell us which was Pepsi and which was oil. On second thoughts maybe not, in my case at least loud profanity, spluttering and gagging would immediatly follow.

    Nice work on the desk.
