A Trip To Adelaide

Verse
I said goodbye to Sydney, the plans had all been made,
A girlfriend, flat and brand new job in peaceful Adelaide
My worldly goods were all shipped down, and things were going well,
Until a woman from my past, turned up to my farewell.

Verse
A hello kiss was all it took, to reignite the flame,
And from that instant I knew life would never be the same,
Because I’d found a woman I could never leave behind,
And thoughts of life in Adelaide slipped gently from my mind.

Chorus
I went down to Adelaide to
Sort out my Tupperware,
Throw out some underwear and
Break up a love affair,
I went down to Adelaide,
Just to come back again,
It sure is a long way to go.

Bridge
My heart filled with pain as I crossed the Hay plain,
It gave me time to think in all that space,
And coming down through Gawler, I thought I just might call her,
But I knew I had to tell her face to face.

Verse
On Thursday night I hit Glenelg, and tears were in my eyes,
She knew that there was something wrong, I knew I couldn’t lie,
On Saturday I broke the news, then me and my girl parted.
On Monday morn I quit the job I hadn’t even started.

Chorus
I went down to Adelaide to
Sort out my Tupperware,
Throw out some underwear and
Break up a love affair,
I went down to Adelaide,
Just to come back again,
It sure is a long way to go.

Verse
So now I’m back in Sydney, and some bridges have been burnt
And you wait for me to tell you of the lessons I have learnt,
If your love is indecisive, don’t think that you’re a failure,
Just pick the right damn girl before you move to South Australia.

Chorus Repeat
I went down to Adelaide to
Sort out my Tupperware,
Throw out some underwear and
Break up a love affair,
I went down to Adelaide,
Just to come back again,
It sure is a long way to go.
